Mrs. Cheryll Willis

Mrs. Cheryll Willis began her school counseling career in the Newark Public Schools before joining the East Brunswick High School Counseling Department in 2004. With more than 20 years of experience as a school counselor, she is passionate about helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and achieve their goals both in high school and beyond.

Mrs. Willis earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Master's degrees in Counseling and Administration and Supervision. Before coming to East Brunswick, she served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Montclair State University and worked as the Scholarship Coordinator in the University's Office of Financial Aid. These experiences strengthened her passion for guiding students through educational opportunities and preparing them for life after high school.

Mrs. Willis believes that every student has the ability to succeed when they feel supported, encouraged, heard, and valued. She takes a student-centered approach to counseling, focusing on building meaningful relationships while helping students navigate academic, social, emotional, and college and career planning. She enjoys partnering with families from diverse backgrounds and believes that strong relationships between home and school create the foundation for student success.

One of Mrs. Willis's favorite parts of being a high school counselor is watching students grow into confident, compassionate young adults. Whether she is helping a student explore career interests, overcome challenges, develop leadership skills, or celebrate a college acceptance, she is committed to helping each student recognize their potential and believe in themselves. She hopes every student she works with leaves high school knowing that their voice matters, their goals are achievable, and they have the skills to make a positive impact on their community.

Outside of school, Mrs. Willis enjoys spending time with family and friends, giving back through community service, and serving in educational and civic leadership roles. She looks forward to getting to know each student and family and partnering with them throughout their high school journey.
